link to…

Despite Toyota’s best efforts in trying to fix the problem with sticking accelerators, they are still running in to big problems. Over 60 different situations have occurred since Toyota has begun to offer to fix the problem. According to the article above, there have been several injuries relating to the faulty accelerators. That is, even after Toyota had supposedly fix it. This huge problem that has most likely set Toyota back in the automaking world by leaps and bounds may have just gotten a lot worse. Although Toyota has, so far, done the right thing by recalling the vehicles to be fixed, they have a lot more work to do in ensuring the safety of their customers. It is obvious that what ever they do they are going to loose a lot of money but in my opinion if they are planning on fighting claims that they are making ethical decisions, and if they want to survive, let alone thrive in the automaking world, they must permanently recall the faulty vehicles and give refunds or offer to provide a car of an equal model with out known problems. If they do not fix this problem immediately, the reputation of Toyota is going to go down the drain. Again, only my opinion

Google has recently had a run in with the Chinese government. The Chinese government is very strict on what information their people can access and “know.” They censor many things ranging anywhere from anti gov groups to religious materials that have been considered to be “harmful” the the Chinese public. A large portion of this information as we all know can be found on the internet, and while the Chinese Gov would like to censor the things that their people can access, and as of a couple of days ago, google has complied with doing that on their search engine. But now, Google is saying that they will no longer do this. This has sparked a huge disagreement between the two and has lead to cyber attacks on Google, which they say were based out of china. If they dont come to an agreement soon i think it will have a major impact on the U.S.-China relationship.

A Whistle-Blower Says His Concerns About Safety Were Met With Scorn

Marshal Greenberg was an elevator operator on a New York construction site. Mr. Greenberg photographed unsafe conditions at the Manhattan building, he reported dangerous practices to supervisors and safety inspectors. He reported smoking near compressors, shot glasses left behind at a work station, drug use and stealing.
“Everybody has a right to work in a safe environment,” Mr. Greenberg said. “I was careful. That’s my job.”
For his efforts, Mr. Greenberg says, union co-workers and construction supervisors threatened and abused him And after a fire at the building in 2007 killed two firefighters, someone even fingered him as an arsonist. For days, investigators treated him like the prime suspect.

The blaze was actually caused by careless smoking, like the kind Mr. Greenberg had reported, investigators concluded, and the firefighters’ deaths were blamed on unsafe conditions.

Mr. Greenberg is still unemployed due to his whistleblowing, he is unable to get work through his union.
This is the paradox of the whistleblower, the one who does the right thing is actually the one who suffers the most, all he was trying to do was keep a safe work environment.
Hopefully he will be able to find work again, i think he should be hired as a safety inspector, he seems well suited for the job.

Gore’s Dual Role: Advocate and Investor

Al Gore has been a prominent figure in politics since being former Vice President of the U.S.. Some critics have been saying that Mr. Gore is advocating green technology in order to profit from it. Al Gore has made significant investments in green technology in the past few years, recently investing $35 million into a single green energy technology. It appears that his investments have neem paying off very well.
Critics point to the fact that each time Mr. Gore successfully lobbys a bill he personally gains from it, each time there is a cap on green house gas emisions a company that Al Gore is invested in usually stands to profit. Al Gore has responded to critics stating:

I have advocated policies to promote renewable energy and accelerate reductions in global warming pollution for decades, including all of the time I was in public service,” Mr. Gore wrote. “As a private citizen, I have continued to advocate the same policies. Even though the vast majority of my business career has been in areas that do not involve renewable energy or global warming pollution reductions, I absolutely believe in investing in ways that are consistent with my values and beliefs. I encourage others to invest in the same way.”

I feel that there is no problem with making money from his investments, even if he is using his political clout to affect legal change that will ultimately help his personal investments. The products and technology his is investing in is great for our economy and good for the planet. Hopefully people will see what Mr. Gore is doing and follow suit, Mr. Gore shows that there is a significant amount of profit to be made by investing in green tech, and hopefully this will encourage others to do the same.

South Carolina: Sanford Case Narrowed

A panel made up of state lawmakers did not consider the accusations of unethical wrongdoing concerning travel and campaign reimbursements, when making their decision on whether to impeach Governor Mark Sanford. Lawmakers said the accusations, even if proved, did not rise to a level that merited impeachment. Lawmakers will consider only Mr. Sanford’s use of state planes and the events surrounding his five-day disappearance in June.
I think this is a good decision made on the behalf of the South Carolina government. If Gov. Sanford was impeached there would probably be a lot more hearings which would cost the state more money in fees and also would continue to mar the image of the state of South Carolina. It is probably best to get this scandal behind us and move on to more important issues. The state also plans to collect about $75,000 from Gov. Sanford in fines, this probably would have been more difficult to collect if Sanford was impeached.

Coca-cola is taking the lead in a environmental friendly bottle for their business. The new bottle will be made up of mostly plant material that consists of sugar cane and molasses from Brazil. It seems to me that Coca-cola is realizing the impacts of good ethnics in environmental protection. In the future for our economy and environment to remain in healthy shape corporations and citizens need to strive to practice good morals that keep our environment in mind.

Consumers in the know are questioning the integrity of federal organic labeling these days. What makes a product organic is critically determined by the non-use of pesticides and the use of natural ingredients. The major dilemma all stems from gargantuan corporations that persuade the USDA with money to pass and allow unnatural ingredients to slip through the crack. If instances like these continue to happen the organic label will be diluted.

Apple’s corporate culture, views the secrecy of its upcoming products as highly important. Since the first Macintosh, tidbits and specs have been withheld from the public to safeguard new designs and inner workings. Many former employees have explained Apple’s elaborate safety precautions, which keep information unexposed to competitors and the media. In my opinion I understand and agree with the use of Apple’s secrecy and the way it uses this in its corporate culture.

Inheritance is a touchy subject with the people who receive it and the others who don’t. Many people feel that inheritance is unfair, how can one person inherit a vast fortune, good schooling, and great business connections, while another inherits hardly anything, bad schooling, and connections with crime. At birth neither person deserves one or the other but like Nozick suggests the person entitled to it deserves it out rightly as long as it is not ill gotten.

Five people in the Philadelphia area were charged with using a mortgage-rescue program to steal nearly $15 million from homeowners facing foreclosure. The scammers defrauded at least 35 homeowners in the suburban Philly area, resulting in families losing their homes and home equity. I think these people deserve to be punished to the max. It’s stuff like this that screwed up the housing market for everyone, and people are still trying to get away with it and ruin other people’s lives. They’re crooks and they belong in jail.
